Before you join an affiliate program, research the ones you’re considering, ask questions. The answers will be the determining factor.

Will it cost you anything to join?
You can join most affiliate programs free of charge, so why settle for those that charge an upfront fee?

When are commission checks issued?
Every program is different. Select the one that suits you best. Many affiliate programs set a minimum earned commission amount that an affiliate must meet or exceed in order for checks to be issued.

What is the hit per sale ratio?
This is the average number of hits to a banner or text link it takes to generate a sale based on all affiliate statistics. This factor is extremely important because this will tell you how much traffic you must generate before you can earn a commission from a sale.

How are referrals from an affiliate’s site tracked, and how long do they remain in the system?
This is the only way that you can get credit for a sale. The time that those people stay in the system is also important. This is because some visitors do not buy initially but may want to return later to make the purchase. Know if you will still get credit for the sale if it takes place months later.

What kinds of affiliate stats are available?
Your affiliate program should offer detailed stats. Stats should be available online anytime you decide to check them. Constantly checking your individual stats is important to know how many impressions, hits and sales are already generated from your site. Impressions are the number of times the banner or text link was viewed by a visitor of your site. A hit is the actual click on the banner or text links.

Does the affiliate program also pay for the hits and impressions besides the commissions on sales?
It is important that impressions and hits are also paid, as this will add to your earnings. This is especially important if the program you’re in offers low sales to be able to hit ratio.

Who is the online retailer?
Find out who you are doing business with to know if it’s really a solid company. Know the products they are selling and the average amount they are achieving. The more you know about the retailer offering you the affiliate program, the easier it will be for you to know if that program is really for you and your site.

Is the affiliate a one tier or two tier program?
A single tier program pays you only for the business you yourself have generated. A two tier program pays you for the business, plus it also pays you a commission on the sales generated by any affiliate you sponsor in your program. Some two-tier programs are even paying small fees on each new affiliate you sponsor, like a recruitment fee.

What is the amount of commission paid?
Five percent - 20% is the commission paid by most programs. A .01% - .05% is the amount paid for each hit. If you find a program that also pays for impressions, the amount paid is not much at all. That’s why the average sales amount and hit to sale ratio is important.

These are just some of the questions you should have answers to before you enter into an affiliate program. Know these aspects before deciding on an affiliate program and incorporating it into your website.

Information-based marketing is one of the oldest and most effective techniques used to get targeted prospects and to convert them into buyers. That’s why article writing, submissions and publications are also becoming more popular. Following are some things to be considered before submitting content to article directories.

1. You must be clear about why you’re writing an article.

There are three key benefits from writing articles; branding, lead generation and promotion, which are all part of your marketing optimization effort.

But there is really only one reason to write an article, and that is to enlighten your audience. If you don’t focus on this purpose and write interesting helpful information, you’ll fail to achieve the promotional benefits, because no one will be interested in reading it. If the article is good quality people will read it and be more likely to click on your resource box at the end of the piece.

2. You must maximize the promotional opportunity of article marketing.

You may already know that your articles can help you generate additional links back to your site. But, do you know that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from that article with keyword optimization? Place keywords in strategic places, but don’t overdo it.

You want to get picked up by publishers with a large number of readers and gain leverage because of the quality of your work. This can make for profitable marketing. Start with a plan and focal point. Not all article banks and directories are going to accept your content. It must meet certain guidelines.

3. You must publish content that helps your readers

Maybe all you’re thinking is that you want links back to your site and any visitors you can generate are fine. But, if you write content that publishers want, your article marketing will be more effective and it will be something that people will want to read. This also means you have to obey the standard guidelines, spell check, do research on good topics and in some cases, even hire a writer to produce good content on your behalf.

Impossible Is Just A Word

Just about everyone has dreamed of being somebody “special,” somebody “big.” Who hasn't fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer? Who hasn't dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich or successful or happy with our relationships? Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, too often our dreams remain just that – dreams. And our aspirations vanish.

How sad. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day and just barely existing. If we learn to aim higher, life could be so much better.

One of the most challenging dilemmas in moving forward and setting goals is thinking we can’t do. Now, if everyone thought that way, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment.

Remember that scientists were baffled that the bumblebee could fly. Theoretically, they said, it was impossible. Fortunately, the bee didn’t know any different.

If you’re consumed with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you’ll never be able to get past what you think is impossible. On the other hand, in reaching too far, you can find yourself clinging to that impossible dream at the expense of something achievable.

Try this exercise. On a sheet of paper make three columns. Label the first “things you know you can do,” the second “things you might be able to do,” and the last one “things that are impossible for you to do.” Then make a list under each heading.

Now, strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under “things you know you can do.” Check them off as you accomplish them. Once you do all the things under the first heading, take the things from the second heading – “things you might be able to do” – and list them under the first heading. Now they become the “things you know you can do.” Take the items under the third heading and move them to the second column. They are now the “things you might be able to do.” Once you finish the things you’ve moved to the “things you might be able to do” column, there are no impossibilities left.

As you move through this process, you’ll find that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begins to seem doable after all.

The whole point here is not to limit your imagination. The objective is to aim high, and start working toward a goal little by little. Remember also, to set goals that are truly realistic, so you won’t become discouraged. Those who just daydream about things and never set goals or work to accomplish goals, end up disappointed and disillusioned.

If you had told people a hundred years ago that it was possible for man to be on the moon, they would’ve laughed. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would’ve said you were out of your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these seemingly impossible dreams are now realities.

‘Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.’ But note that the 1% has to be a think-big dream. Mind you, change will not happen over night. But, remain focused and work through what is necessary to accomplish what you want.

So dream! Don’t be seduced by your perceived limitations. Think big, work hard, stay focused and watch the seemingly impossible become a bit more achievable.
