Mailing Lists

No matter what type of email you send out, you’ll need a mailing list. Building a mailing list requires you to capture the name and email address of anyone who buys your product or shows an interest in it.

Have a Mailing List of Your Own

Everyone should have their own mailing list. An email list that you grow yourself is your bread and butter, so to speak. It’s a “must have” to make money.

One way of building a list is to use a list manager on your site. List managers can provide the HTML coding for the form on the Gateway pages. A list manager collects the email addresses that are gathered with the form. Thus, your email list is collected. Since it will probably take some time to build your list through the list manager, there are some things you can do until you get your own email list.

Rent or Buy a List

You can rent or buy targeted email lists. The list you develop using your own customers’ names is called your “house list.” Of course, when you’re first starting out, your house list will probably be very small. To increase it, you can buy or rent a mailing list. You can approach a company you want to rent from directly or use a list broker. Any company that emails information to its customers usually has a list manager who handles inquiries and orders for the mailing list. Another way to build an email list is to list your newsletter in ezine directories.

Ad Swaps

Once you have grown your list, you can do ad swaps with other list owners to increase the size of your list. You, as a company owner, have an email list that you send newsletters to and another list owner has a list they send newsletters to. You and this list owner place ads on each other’s mailing list. Each of you is promoting the other’s list and that increases the size of both lists.

Increase Your Site Traffic and Succeed With Affiliate Marketing Programs

As an affiliate, your main objective is to sell the products and services offered by your partner merchants. Unless you can do this, you can never hope to make a significant amount of money with affiliate marketing programs. So how do you boost sales? All things being equal, you will need to increase your site traffic before you can experience more sales. By the law of averages, the more people are aware of the products you are offering, the more products you will sell. Here are a few tips to increase your site traffic and succeed with affiliate marketing programs.

1. Optimize for the search engines

The most successful sites on the internet are the most visible ones. There are various ways to achieve increased exposure on the internet, but the best method is that of search engine optimization (SEO) which helps your site achieve higher rankings on the search engines. If you have used a search engine, you’ll notice that any particular keyword search will return thousands of results. Most people will not bother to browse through all those. They prefer to look into the sites that are already displayed. Statistically speaking, the sites listed on the first results page will get the largest amount of traffic, thus putting those sites in a better position to make money.

2. Join internet directories

Although internet directories are no longer as widely used as search engines, some people do use them. It is important that you do not overlook the potential customers that these directories can bring to your site. To join an internet directory, you’ll have to submit your site for approval, and it will be categorized accordingly. Only submit with keywords relevant to your niche. If you have the Alexa toolbar installed you can also see the directory site rating. If the site has good relevant traffic for your niche, then sign up. Try to submit to directories with a page rank higher than your own. As directories are now only a supplemental source of website traffic, I would use the free option.

3. Provide fresh content

You must continually update your site if you expect your visitors to return. Your site must have useful content, as well as tools that will help your target audience. Make sure it’s easy to navigate and be sure your links work the way that they should. There’s nothing more frustrating to people than a “broken” website. Once your site has been labeled as such, chances are slim that many people will want to come back.

4. Build an online community

Build relationships with your potential customers. Make your visitors feel welcome and appreciated, and they’re likely to come back. Be interested in solving their problems and they will thank you with their business.

Now you have four ways to increase your site traffic and succeed with affiliate marketing programs.

5 Reasons Blogging is Good for the Marketing Soul

  • You've heard the expression "everything old is new again." Born in the 1990s, blogging began as the purview of teens and techies who wanted to keep a digital journal of their lives. Platforms like Open Diary, LiveJournal and Blogger were created to make the process easier.

Political blogs came to prominence in the late 90s, thanks to the likes of Andrew Sullivan, Wonkette, and Little Green Footballs. Howard Dean's 2003 presidential campaign was largely fueled by a blog that contained daily marching orders for his volunteers.

It took a few more years before blogging reached the business mainstream. A May 2005 cover story by Businessweek writer Stephen Baker declared "Blogs Will Change Your Business."

At this point, where blogging is concerned, you might say the rest is history.

However, the advent of social media sent blogging into the digital Dark Ages and it's taken changes to Google's algorithm (famously known as Penguin and Panda) to spark a resurgence and renaissance.

(Note: We could also credit individuals like content marketing evangelist Joe Pulizzi and Copyblogger founder Brian Clark, both of whom continually testify to blogging's merits.)

The yin-yang relationship between blogging and social media is now well established; blogging forms the core of an integrated content marketing strategy, around which social media is a distribution channel and added layer. But why is blogging good for the marketing soul? Here are five reasons.

Four Things To Consider When Choosing A Domain Name

Picking a domain name should be easy, right? If you’re thinking of just using your business name, you should think again. A good bit of thought should be given to selecting a domain name. Picking a domain name is like getting married. You’re going to have to live with it until the end. I am suggesting four things to consider when choosing a domain name.

People that use your site will come to know it by the domain name. Repeat visitors will often just type in the domain name to get to the site. For example, do you search for “Amazon” when you want to buy a book or do you simply type in amazon.com? If Amazon were to change its domain name to Shop, there would be a lot of confusion. The same goes for your domain name. Once you pick it stick with it.

    Domain Name Choices

Even if the obvious choice is your business name that might not be the best. There are four significant issues to consider.

    1) Unwise Choice

Is there something about your business name that makes using it as a domain an unwise choice? This situation typically arises if you have a long business name or have plural words. “Johnson’s Tea Marketing Campaigns, Inc.” would be an awful domain name. Visitors would find it difficult to type.

    2) Double Letter Problems

Double letter problems are a second issue that is entirely unique to the Internet. What if Brendas Software wants to use its business name as a domain? The “s” at the end of first word and beginning of the second can cause confusion. Is the domain name Brendassoftware.com or Brendasoftware.com? You don’t want to confuse your users.

    3) Nature of Your Site and Search Engine Optimization.

The third issue concerns the nature of your site and search engine optimization. If you’re shooting for a particular keyword phrase, you may be better off using that keyword phrase in your domain name. Google, for instance, looks at the domain name when evaluating a site. If the words in your domain name are spaced with dashes, many believe it will help in the ranking process. This is why you see so many xxx-xxxx-xxx.com domain names on the net. If your business focuses on a very specific area, strong consideration should be given to using relevant keywords in your domain name.

    4) Your Domain Name Should end in “.com”

Finally, your domain name should end in “.com” and not some other extension. The simple fact is that when people think of sites, they always type in .com. There are other extensions and .us, .net, .biz, etc., may seem unique, but it kills your traffic. People have been mentally conditioned to type in .com, so don’t select any other ending. If you do, a smart competitor will register the .com version of your name to get some free traffic. I’m sure you don’t want any of those unsavory sites doing that to you!

So, take a step back and remember these four things to consider when choosing a domain name.

Ways to Thrive in any Economy

I happened across this article at Copyblogger that I like and think is worth the read. It focuses on the current economic situation and big changes and people’s reaction to it. Even though the environment can change drastically, human nature basically remains the same. The article focuses on four ways to thrive in any economy.

It’s in our nature to be entrepreneurs, to create something of value and then exchange it for something we want. During the Industrial Revolution only a few knew how to run factories, so the rest had to become the trained workers.

During the current uncertain economic crisis more entrepreneurs are emerging. So how does one deal with this 21-century economy? You could do what entrepreneurs have done since the dawn of history.

    1) Use the human drive to determine your own fate. Work hard, keep your eyes open and make your own luck.

    2) Use great ideas. Today’s marketplace requires, among other things, valuable and useful information, digital tools and education. They don’t require a workforce. You can find out just what customers need and package it.

    3) The village has been your customer in the past and is so still. Your reputation and you are one and the same as with the ancients. But if you mess up now, there’s social media to bad mouth you. What you create has to reflect caring.

    4) Use your DNA, the nature to be entrepreneurs. Not everyone will become an information entrepreneur, but you can if you choose to.

“Embrace the entrepreneurship that’s in your DNA. Keep your eyes open for problems to solve and markets to serve. And buckle up. Like every exciting ride, this one’s got a few hairpin curves.”

How to Use Articles to Get Traffic to Your Site

    By

The ultimate goal for any webmaster is to attract as many internet visitors to their website. Just think of it has a huge mall with millions of stores in it. You would have all those stores competing to get the attention of the people walking around just looking at the windows of a few stores, but very few actually go inside any of those stores. It works the exact same way with the internet. The more attractive your initial display is, the more chances of having people go into your website.

Think of articles as scout agents that are assigned to go out there and attract customers into your website. You create these articles with as much quality of content as you can, so that they can be picked up by web crawlers and shown in search results. The more quality articles you have out there, the more chances one of them will be on display when someone types the search phrases that relate to your content.

Let's say someone goes on the internet looking for a new Smartphone they want to buy. They will most likely go to Google or their favorite search engine and type the name and model of the phone they want. This means that if your website is about Smartphone's or general technology, you will show up on the search results if you have created quality content with those keywords in it.

This is why it's so important to create good quality SEO articles for your website and make sure they have all the keywords that might drive people to your website. Quality and quantity are just as important in this case. The more content you have out there... Read More

3 Ways To Get Articles Without Writing Them

There are many ways to produce articles without writing them yourself. You can use a ghostwriter, private label rights articles that you buy, articles you put together from expert interviews and more. Following are three ways to get articles without writing them yourself.
  • Use a Ghost Writer
  • A ghost writer is someone who writes books, articles, stories, reports, or other texts that are officially credited to another person. Some ghost writers are hired to edit and clean up a rough draft, others are hired to do most of the writing based on an outline provided by the credited author.
  • Many active ghost writers have resumes and portfolios online on sites like Freelance Portfolios. Sites like this have a wide range of portfolios available that allow the client to make a choice of skill and experience level. You can also try posting an ad on Craigslist with your requirements and an overview of the project. If you want more ghost writers to choose from, try posting a project on Elance or RentACoder and allowing people to bid on your project. Contract and payment details will be explained on the site.
  • Private label Rights
  • Private label rights (PLR) articles are articles written by someone who then sells that content to others to use on their websites. Once you’ve purchased a PLR article, you have the right to use that article on your website without any worries of committing plagiarism or copyright infringement. Furthermore, the person using the article technically owns that material, and can make changes within the article, add material to the content, delete information from the content, include introductory or conclusive commentaries, and still publish the changed article without any legal repercussions. The operative words here are ‘make changes.’ You must make the article your own by editing the information.
  • When authors write PLR articles, they may sell the article as many times as they want and to whomever they want. So, when you use a PLR article on your website, it is very likely that duplicate copies of the exact same article are posted on many other websites on the Internet. If your website visitors realize that the content you’ve posted is copied from other sources, you may lose credibility and visitors. The risk of loss of credibility and a damaged reputation leading to a lower number of website visitors is a realistic disadvantage when you use PLR articles.
  • Expert Interviews
  • Experts are the starting point of a great article-whether written for a newspaper, an Internet website or a magazine. Experts validate your claims, explain intricate technical jargon and add life to your articles. Most experts are perfectly willing to give you a few quotes for your article because not only does it increase the chances that your information is correct, but it also offers them publicity. So, choose the subject matter and search out a ghost writer, some PLR articles or find an expert to interview or do all three and get started with your articles. And, then click here for a traffic source.

Getting New Visitors to Read Your Post

You worked hard on creating content and promoting your site simply to get people to read your post but yet they bounce … and quickly! The fact is to have a successful blog your readers need to fall in love with what you offer so that they will return! Of course this won't happen if people who land on your site lose focus and leave before reading a thing! If this is happening to you than fear not since in most cases it is in your power to correct the problem! When your readers leave your platform as quickly as they landed on it this generally indicates a distraction of some sort!

Here are 5 potential 'distractions' you may unwittingly create as a blogger that keep you from developing reader loyalty and thus a successful blog!

    Needless Widgets

Wordpress blogs have at their disposal a seemingly endless amount of widgets from which they can use and many bloggers take full advantage! It is important to remember widgets are there to help you more easily build and maintain a successful blog but if you use too many this can be a distraction to your readers! I have yet to see or hear of any visitors that search for and land on blogs just to check out the widgets being used!

    Circus Like Graphics

Although your blog is a great way to express yourself and your individualism, it's best to do so through the content you write! The excessive use of graphics may add a visual spark to your site however too many can easily cause visitors to lose focus on the content they came to view thus leaving your site prematurely! Since a loyal readership is needed to have a successful blog it seems using graphics to the extreme may only serve to sabotage your blogging efforts!

    Ads

The use of ads should follow the same guidelines as how you place graphics on your platform, with prudence and sparingly! Keep in mind your readers show up to 'read' and not 'buy' so avoid exposing them to too many ads or they will feel used, betrayed and once again will lose focus on why they even landed on your site! When this occurs it is hard to get these people to ever return so tread carefully when placing ads!

    Images

Using images can help you break up text and give your readers a place to rest their eyes which is what you want! On the other hand too many images can lead to additional clutter so keeping a 'balance' is the key! You want the images you use in your content to 'compliment' or help convey your intended message but NOT to dominate your text! Once again too many images or even using oversized pictures can cause visitors to lose focus and leave before they read what you wrote!

    Font Size

Sorry but size does matter in terms of the font you use! The smaller the font, the more you can fit on a page and therefore the more 'overwhelming' this may be to visitors! Additionally your readers do not need to strain their eyes just to read your content simply because this 'challenge' can and will cause them to leave! Be sure you are using a 'comfortable' font size and consider a size 12 the minimum you should use although 14 is probably better yet!

If you want people to read your post than don't challenge them with too many distractions on your blog since they'll simply lose focus and leave! The point of the above discussion is to be more conscious of what you present to your readers when they land on your site! You want people to read what you wrote but by 'accessorizing' your site with too many graphics, widgets or ads, this may not happen! The takeaway here is that to have a truly successful blog, your readers must first view the content and in doing so, enjoy it as well! When this occurs, they will elect to return and even refer your site to others, but with too many distractions, it doesn't matter how good your content is, people lose focus and simply leave!

    Getting Paid To Podcast

You can download a free recording program from audacity.sourceforge.net, where you will also find tutorials on the technical side of podcasting.

When you have the content and are able to produce good quality podcasts, you need listeners. You can find them by submitting your podcast to directories such as podcastalley.com, promoting it through a website or blog, or advertising in forums and newsletters.

The bigger your market, the better. Don't be afraid of competitive markets, they're big for a reason--they pay and people are listening!

You will then be able to make money by finding a sponsor who is willing to pay to reach your listeners. You could find your own advertisers, or join a podcasting network such as podtrac.com.

If your content is desirable enough, you can charge for access to it, thus getting paid to podcast, through services such as iTunes (apple.com/itunes). If you are selling your podcast, however, it is a good idea to create a free content version too in order to reach new listeners.

    Thinking about money

    From Seth's Blog

Many marketers work overtime to confuse us about money. They take advantage of our misunderstanding of the time value of money, of our aversion to reading the fine print, of our childish need for instant gratification and most of all, our conflicted emotional connection to money.

Confusing customers about money can be quite profitable if that's the sort of work you're willing to do.

A few things to keep in mind:

    1. The amount of money you have has nothing to do with whether or not you're a good person. Being good with money is a little like being good with cards. People who are good at playing cards aren't better or worse than anyone else, they're just better at playing crazy eights.
    2. Money spent on one thing is still the same as money spent on something else. A $500 needless fee on a million-dollar mortgage closing is just as much money as a $500 tip at McDonalds.
    3. If you borrow money to make money, you've done something magical. On the other hand, if you go into debt to pay your bills or buy something you want but don't need, you've done something stupid. Stupid and short-sighted and ultimately life-changing for the worse.
    4. To go along with #3: getting out of debt as fast as you possibly can is the smartest thing you can do with your money. If you need proof to confirm this, ask anyone with money to show you the math. Hint: credit card companies...

A few Tips For Affiliate Marketing Beginners

Affiliate marketing is usually the starting point for home business entrepreneurs and beginners in Internet Marketing because of the small amount of work involved. However, there are some things that you must absolutely look for before promoting an affiliate product.

    Promote A Unique Product

For the best results promote a unique product. Promoting a product that is already being sold by hundreds is not in your best interest. A unique program may be a bit hard to find because, in the short run, that wouldn’t be in the merchant’s best interest.

Use Powerful and Effective Affiliate Tools

As a new affiliate marketer you might be at a loss as to what to do. When you’re ready to start promoting, be sure you have a clear understanding of the tools available to you. Most affiliate marketing beginners usually go for months before making their first sale, because the merchant may not be very helpful. So make sure that the program you choose has a clearly explained resource section. This will improve your chances for success. Following are some of the tools to check for.

    Affiliate Resources:

Brandable ebooks to give away or sell with your own affiliate ID links to generate leads... and sales

    Sales letters provided

Templates of the emails to send to your list(s), or pre-written emails

Free promotional tips so you can make money without spending a lot

Advice and tips for paid promotional techniques, in case you choose to use such, so that you don’t lose more money than you make

Redirect links through your own website. For example: www.yoursite.com/theaffiliatesite/

    Banners

    Good Tracking Software

You must be able to monitor almost everything in your resources section:

You need to be able to track your sales, the visitors to your site and to the merchant’s site, by which page they enter to the merchant site (thus the importance of redirect links)

You must be able to view your payment history, and also how many people signed up under you if it is a two-tier affiliate program.

    Cookies and IP Addresses

It is a common practice for Internet users to clear their cookies daily or weekly. So if you spend money on PPC or any other paid advertising to get a customer, you don’t want to see another affiliate get your commission. So try to choose an affiliate program that has tracking software which tracks the IP address of your future customer. Do choose a program that has recurring commissions so that you can get paid over and over.

Look for affiliate programs with a generous compensation plan, and give a preference to the two-tier programs as you’ll be paid on two levels. Lastly, be sure the program has a support system so you’ll be able to communicate with the merchant.

5 Things You Should Avoid When It Comes to Making Money Online

       by Quentin Baker

With more and more savvy entrepreneurs looking to try their hand at online business each day, the number of red flags to keep clear of is also practically on the rise. If you're looking to grow your web-based venture the right way, I have the right tips to help you do just that. Make sure you give the rest of this article a thorough read through to get started right away.

Stay away from offers that are too good to be true.

Coming across promotional offers that promise to multiply your investment exponentially in just a matter of days or weeks is not uncommon as soon as you fire up your browser these days. If you think that a certain offer sounds too good to be true, make it a point to stay away from it. Akin to traditional businesses, an online venture needs a lot of patience, know-how and determination to make it as successful as possible.

    Dubious information equals online scam.

Let's say a certain "online business guru" or company contacts you for a partnership deal and you notice that their address and other important details are somewhat questionable. No matter how tempting their offer may be or how promising the returns of their proposal is, stay away from them if the pieces of information like email addresses and telephone numbers they are providing aren't lining up.

Chain letters should not be taken seriously.

Have you ever tried checking your inbox one day and discovering a lot of "good luck messages" that only work if they get forwarded? Well, if you find similar emails that promise huge amounts of money will be sent to you if you just send a certain amount of dollars to the sender, it is absolutely a scam nonetheless. Mark the message as spam immediately and report the sender as soon as you can.

    Repeating IP addresses mean trouble.

Blacklisted websites often use recurrent IP addresses to lure as much people to sign up for their fraudulent schemes and business offers. If you're looking to make money online, always check the background of the website or blog where you found the promising business idea. Just remember to forget the whole deal when you discover that it uses identical IP addresses.

    There is no secret formula.

In the world of online business, there's no secret formula or magic bullet that will boost your venture to the top of your niche in a matter of days. However, you can find reliable online business mentors if you just know where to look. Akin to its traditional counterparts, a web-based venture is all about knowing and applying the right things. Top it off with a lot of determination, persistence and a positive mindset, you're definitely on your way to success if you play your cards right.

Why New Marketers Should Love Unsubscribers

If you are like most new marketers you just dread logging into your autoresponder and seeing that you have lost list members due to them unsubscribing. There are some good reasons to look forward to getting unsubscribes.

The only way you’ll never have unsubscribes is to never send an email. If you are not going to use the list why go through the effort of building one.

To unsubscribe a person has to at least open the email and click the unsubscribe link. That means your headline worked. But if you’re using dishonest headlines such as you have money waiting, your account status, or other such headlines people will unsubscribe. If you are using a headline that matches your email and it gets opened, then that headline has worked for you.

Another reason people unsubscribe has to do with personality. Not everyone is going to like you or your writing style. If they don't like your style you’ll never be able to build a relationship with them. You need a relationship in order to sell to them. So each unsubscribe will make your list more targeted to people who actually like your style and are more likely to respond positively to your offers that meet their needs.

So there’s no need to dread seeing people unsubscribe from your list. Just remember that you’re actually making your list stronger and more profitable for you in the long run, because you’ll be building a relationship with members who will respect you.

    Using Commas Correctly

There are two parts to today's tip: using commas to separate items in a list and using commas to separate adjectives of equal rank.

    1. List Items

First, when listing a series of adjectives or nouns, use commas to separate individual elements. For example, in the sentence:

"In college, I learned how to speak German, French and Spanish."

... you put a comma between the words "German" and "French" to show that they are individual elements. It’s a matter of preference whether you put a comma between the last two list items. The current accepted style by the Associated Press stylebook is to leave it out.

    2. Separating Adjectives

Another rule that we see causing problems is the use of commas to separate adjectives of equal rank. Many people think that if you have two adjectives next to each other in a sentence, you always separate them with a comma. This isn't always the case. You only apply this rule when both adjectives describe, or modify, the same noun. Take these sentences, for example:

      DOESN'T Modify Same Noun

      • He is a fantastic mystery writer.
      • We drove by the old-fashioned colonial house.
      • That's how you become a fast cross-country runner.

      Modifies Same Noun

      • I'm going to submit more high-quality, original articles to EzineArticles.
      • The long, arduous journey took ten days.
      • Expect to be greeted by knowledgeable, considerate residents.

Notice, there aren't any commas in the first set of sentences, but they are present in the second set. In the second set, each adjective describes the noun of the sentence separately. When deciding whether to use a comma in these situations, use the "and" trick. Substitute the word "and" where the comma would go. If that changes the sentence meaning, you don’t need the comma. If it still makes sense, you need the comma.

An alternate test is to flip the order of the two adjectives. If the meaning is still the same, you need the comma.

Also, watch comma usage when separating clauses, adding non-essential information and when you're writing out dates, geographical names and numbers greater than 1,000.

The Best Definition of Success Is the One You Never Use

    by Jeff Haden

Forget kaleidoscopes, forget people are like snowflakes, forget we're all individuals (bonus points if you got the last reference without following the link.)

There is only one real way to define success.

    Just one.

Granted success in business and in life means different things to different people, and should mean different things to different people. Whether or not you feel successful depends on how you define success -- and on the tradeoffs you are willing to not just accept but embrace as you pursue your individual definition of success.

Still. Determining whether you are successful is based on answering one question: How happy am I?

Your level of success is based solely on your answer to that question.
