A few Tips For Affiliate Marketing Beginners

Affiliate marketing is usually the starting point for home business entrepreneurs and beginners in Internet Marketing because of the small amount of work involved. However, there are some things that you must absolutely look for before promoting an affiliate product.

Promote A Unique Product

For the best results promote a unique product. Promoting a product that is already being sold by hundreds is not in your best interest. A unique program may be a bit hard to find because, in the short run, that wouldn’t be in the merchant’s best interest.

Use Powerful and Effective Affiliate Tools

As a new affiliate marketer you might be at a loss as to what to do. When you’re ready to start promoting, be sure you have a clear understanding of the tools available to you. Most affiliate marketing beginners usually go for months before making their first sale, because the merchant may not be very helpful. So make sure that the program you choose has a clearly explained resource section. This will improve your chances for success. Following are some of the tools to check for.

Affiliate Resources:

Brandable ebooks to give away or sell with your own affiliate ID links to generate leads... and sales

Sales letters provided

Templates of the emails to send to your list(s), or pre-written emails

Free promotional tips so you can make money without spending a lot

Advice and tips for paid promotional techniques, in case you choose to use such, so that you don’t lose more money than you make

Redirect links through your own website. For example: www.yoursite.com/theaffiliatesite/

Banners

Good Tracking Software

You must be able to monitor almost everything in your resources section:

You need to be able to track your sales, the visitors to your site and to the merchant’s site, by which page they enter to the merchant site (thus the importance of redirect links)

You must be able to view your payment history, and also how many people signed up under you if it is a two-tier affiliate program.

Cookies and IP Addresses

It is a common practice for Internet users to clear their cookies daily or weekly. So if you spend money on PPC or any other paid advertising to get a customer, you don’t want to see another affiliate get your commission. So try to choose an affiliate program that has tracking software which tracks the IP address of your future customer. Do choose a program that has recurring commissions so that you can get paid over and over.

Look for affiliate programs with a generous compensation plan, and give a preference to the two-tier programs as you’ll be paid on two levels. Lastly, be sure the program has a support system so you’ll be able to communicate with the merchant.
