I thought I'd try my hand at something different to end the year.

I awoke at about 6:42 am Christmas Eve. I had a thought… hummm.. ominous or should I say promising, especially since it was so early in the morning. My thoughts generally disappear by the time I get out of bed and hit the floor running!

Of course, the thought probably occurred because I went to bed thinking about needing to write a blog post, which kind of proves that if you ask for resolution to a problem just prior to going to sleep, your subconscious will work on it for you and most likely come up with a solution, although it might not always be so immediate.

The thought….

What about taking a subject already posted and writing an article that’s the antithesis of it, sort of.

Thought number two was, how the heck am I going to do that!? You know one thing always leads to another.

Well, I got up, and surprisingly, the first thought stayed with me, and I began to think it was doable. My brain went off on its own tangent.

So, here goes my experiment. It’s now Christmas evening, and my subconscious has been mulling over thought number one all day, I’m sure. You know the subconscious never takes a break.

A short while back, I posted an article to my blog titled “3 Ways to Refresh Old Topics.” It was authored by someone else.

The author references a particular axiom. I’ve used my own version of it, all my adult life, when I’ve been asked “What’s new?” I’ve always replied, “Nothing. We just haven’t discovered it all yet.”

So, on with point one.

Author: “Update Your Topic for the Current Season or Year”

Me: Backdate your topic for a past season or year? I and the Baby Boomers might be able to relate. I and numerous others pre-date the Boomers. :-)

Author: “Women's magazines have been doing this for years. The types of stories tend to be along a few themes which have proved popular with readers…

…articles around a broader theme, such as the Holiday Season. The stories may focus on decorating techniques, preparing special meals, shopping, budgeting… some way to hook the reader's interest by making it relevant to something which reflects a question or a concern they are currently dealing with.”

Me: Update to my “backdate” – Avoid large shopping malls and stores like the plague, especially on Black Friday!

Author: “Use a News Story to Capture Your Reader's Interest”

“… use current events as a lead in to whatever you would like to share with your reader… makes your niche content timely and interesting… can be a great source of statistics and other information… to refresh your old topics.”

“… sharing the results of an annual survey… discussing which person or company won an award…. a great lead-in to a topic… immediately provides your audience with something new to consider and you can follow up the first paragraph or two with some further information to flesh out the topic some more.”

Me: News flash. At present, my news story and current event is getting this blog post finished. I have no statistics to back up my tardiness—procrastination? Now, there are statistics for that, I suppose, although I can’t put my finger on any at the moment.

Author: “Find a New Angle”

“When you are updating your content or website, resist the urge to reinvent the wheel…. You already have a bare bones topic… what if you considered your topic from the point of view of different age groups, men v. women… people living in different part of the country…”?

“Get Google Alert updates… get email updates and RSS feeds…. They will give you some different ideas about how you can share information about your niche topic… other people's content on the same topic can open up new avenues to explore with your own marketing.”

Me:I’ve found a new angle—an antithesis experiment.

In summary, I think it’s good to try something different in order to keep the creative juices flowing. Speaking of juices—I have had nothing to drink today other than water and coffee. So this article comes from the mind of the all present me.

Have you ever noticed how often you say, "I can't"?

"I can't lose weight."
"I can't find my soul mate."
"I can't find a job I love."
"I can't take care of myself."
"I can't heal this shame."
"I can't get myself to exercise."
"I can't find my passion."

When I was little, one of my favorite books was "The Little Engine that Could." For those of you who don't know this children's book, it's about a little train engine who was given the job of pulling a very big load up a hill. As it was pulling the load, it kept saying, "I think I can. I think I can. I think I can." And, of course, it did.

As a three-year old, this little book impressed me very much. I memorized it and read it over and over. I integrated "I think I can," into my thought process, and every time I was challenged, I would say "I think I can," to myself. Like the little engine who could, I never gave up on something that really mattered to me. Fortunately, "I can't" didn't become a part of my language.

With many of my clients, it's a different story. "I can't" seems to be deeply entrenched into their language. In the work I do, I help people learn how to heal their shame, how to take emotional responsibility by learning to be loving to themselves and others, and how to connect with a personal source of spiritual Guidance. Very often, my clients say things like, "I can't take care of myself. I don’t know how." "I can't connect with my spiritual Guidance. I'm not capable of this." "I can't remember to be present with my feelings." "I can't speak up for myself - it's too hard." And, as Henry Ford states in the above quote, as long as they choose to believe this, they can't. They prove themselves right every time.

I wonder if you would be willing to try an experiment. What might happen if, every time you hear yourself say "I can't" you consciously turn it around and say, "I can!" If you did this often enough, you would change your way of thinking, and in changing your thinking, you can change the outcome of your efforts.

Fortunately, another thing I learned very early in my life is that it's okay to fail. To me failure only means that I need to try harder and learn more. Failure never means that I am stupid or incapable. While I've had plenty of failure in my life, it never stopped me from saying "I think I can," which is what enables me to keep going until I succeed.

From 1998 until 2010, I worked on creating a major software program, called SelfQuest. During these 12 years I had many failures and disappointments, but never once did it occur to me that I would not succeed in creating the program of my vision. It was vitally important to me to create this program that I knew would be a huge help to others, and I knew that nothing would stop me. Even when the programmer disappeared with all the work, I knew in my soul that it would all work out. And it did. After finding an incredible new programmer, the original programmer resurfaced and gave us everything we needed to complete it.

No one succeeds without failures, and no one succeeds by saying "I can't". Try reading "The Little Engine that Could" and integrate this into your mindset!

Free business cards are a staple. The best part is they are free! You can leave them everywhere and give them to anyone. When I get them in the mail, I start using them wherever possible. And, that is everywhere. Be imaginative!

2. Link Exchanges

Link exchanges are a great way of spreading Page Rank, and also of sharing visitors. If people like a site they will bookmark it. After they read what they want, they will go to the site that you link to. So, you get the visitors, and share them through a link exchange.

3. Business Card Networking

When you get your business cards, use them to network with other people. Every time you meet someone, hand them one of your free business cards. Then ask for one of theirs in exchange. If they don't have one, be sure you mention what you do, and let them know your website address.

Free business cards make a great networking tool if you put them to use. Do not forget, they are free, and should not be used sparingly. Use them in any situation you can think of. People will take them home and visit your site when they pull them out.

Social networking sites have definitely changed the way people connect with each other, both online and off. Though some still believe that the best connections you create are those in the physical world, others have embraced Facebook, Twitter, along with other social sites, as a way to build relationships and communicate with people.

Today, instead of calling up all your friends to invite them to a party, you can now simply invite them all on Facebook with just one fell swoop. If you want to impart some exciting news, you can simply tweet about it and you can have hundreds of your friends responding to it in an instant.

Social networking sites have even changed the way businesses work. More and more companies are using their Facebook page to promote their brand and serve as part of their customer support department, and many are using Twitter to keep their clients updated about the latest news, deals, and offerings they have.

But there is one thing you should be careful of when it comes to social networking – your privacy. Though you may not really care what you reveal about yourself since you consider it a form of self-expression, this may just come back and bite you on the back in the future. And do you really want most of your personal information revealed to the world, such as your civil status, your sexual preference, and even your birth date?

Most social networking sites offer different privacy settings for its users. Facebook has recently made some improvements on its site, making it easier for users to choose what they want to share and which people they want to share it with. Actually, Facebook has had these settings even in the past, but they just recently made it easier for people to use and understand. But this recent update by Facebook and the popularity of Google+ Circles has really made it evident that privacy is very important to many people, even in the online world.

People want to control what they reveal to the public and what they reveal only to their friends. Honestly, do you really want that picture of you looking sloshed to be seen by your boss? Or what about that update that you just skipped work to play hooky? But even more than these things, most people like knowing that they can control who exactly sees their information, updates, posts, links, pictures, videos, and so on. Doesn't the idea of someone randomly stalking your page to see your pictures and updates sound incredibly creepy?

This is why it's very important that you review all the privacy settings of all your social media accounts. With Facebook recently updating its platform, you need to make sure that the settings you have in place are still what you want them to be – you can't really be too sure that this recent update hasn't messed up the current settings you have.

Here's a rundown of what you can do on the current Facebook site: On the upper right corner of the site, there's a small arrow next to the word "Home." Click on it, and a drop down menu will appear, and there's one row that says "Privacy Settings." Make sure to review what your default is set to, to ensure that you still have the settings you want and that you're not inadvertently revealing private information.

The recent update has also made it easier for you to choose which privacy setting you want for any content you plan to put up. Each post has a dropdown menu on the side that offers you three basic privacy settings to choose from: public, friends, or custom. With custom, you can choose specific friends, as well as what degree in your network you want your update to be open to.

Honestly, the online world is so vast, that it's very important that you know how to protect yourself and the information that's revealed about you online. With stalkers, stolen identities, hackers, and others out there, there's a lot that can potentially be dangerous , so you really want to make sure that your privacy settings are set the way you want them to be.

Don't be complacent when it comes to your privacy. Make sure that only the things you want revealed about you are out there. Truly, when it comes to social media, the best thing to remember is actually not to post anything that you don't want the world to see. Because even if you make the update for your friends only, you can't really predict if your friends will share that information with other people, since you don't really control them. The only thing you really have control over is what you choose to post online, so remember to always think before you post.

    After accepting this universal law and understanding that most of the stress we face in our lives, is a direct result of our unrealistic expectation that everything should just go smoothly and that nothing should cross our path to challenge or stretch us. We have discovered a tool that will allow us to live a life that is filled with far less stress and we are able to explore any challenges far sooner, discover the opportunity they hold or unlock the learning they bring. I have asked many people that have attended one of my presentations, whether they are better or worse off after facing any challenge. After sufficient time has passed and they have learnt all they can learn from the process of overcoming any challenge, they have become more and in every case they have attracted more into their lives. Everyone I have asked this question, has unanimously stated that challenges were always one of the best things that happened to them.

    So what are you waiting for, expect challenges, plan for them and search and discover the opportunities that each challenge holds, as quickly as possible. You always get to choose how you respond to any challenge that crosses your path, so the sooner you choose to learn from any challenge and to discover how to turn them into an opportunity for you to become more, as a result of the challenge, the faster you will attract the success you desire and deserve.

    After accepting this universal law and embracing all the benefits that this new understanding will bring, it is time to add one additional tool into the mix. Find a way to bring a little more Yin or a softer approach into your life. Stop expecting to be able to outsmart, outwit and outdo everyone around you. Accept that we are all part of the same whole and the more we learn to co-operate and work together the better the results we will enjoy.

    Work to build great personal relationships, become an effective connector and build as many support structures around you as possible. This softer approach in which you are always looking for ways to help others get what they want, supporting as many people as possible, will see you have exactly the same reflected back to you. Take sincere interest in other people's lives and strive to connect with people on a deep level, where there is always mutual benefit to be had by all parties.

    It is time to get out of your head and to begin to trust your gut. As you learn to trust your intuition, you connect and support people the right people, who will support and assist you in return, you have discovered a pathway to master your life. It is time to accept that we cannot live a one-sided positive life only and that if we cultivate and demonstrate more yin energy, compassion, sensitivity, insightfulness and connection, with everyone around us, we have created a solid foundation for building the future we desire.

When you search for a keyword, it will return an extremely helpful list of long tailed keywords related to your search query. You can tell exactly how competitive a keyword will be with this software, which has saved a ton of time and headache. Regardless of whether or not you use software for niche research, you should still devote a reasonable amount of time to it - the results that you get back from good niche research will be tenfold.

    How to Write Powerful and Niche Relevant Articles in Less Than an Hour

    What follows in this Article is a simple “Step-By-Step” formula for writing powerful niche relevant articles in less than 1 hour.     Step 4. List off the Main Points you Want to Cover.

    This is where you list off your main BULLET points. You don’t have to come up with a lot… IT really depends on what you INTEND TO COVER.

    Step 5. Elaborate on each point you wrote down.

    After you’ve finished writing down your main bullet points, the next step is to elaborate on each of them with a couple of sentences.

    Step 6. Finish With a Conclusion.

    You’ve established who your target audience is, You’ve created your attention grabbing “Headline” to entice your readers, and you’ve bulleted and elaborated on your main points with a few sentences. Now… it’s time for the “Conclusion”, put simply, your “Conclusion” is your chance to tell your readers why this article is important and to get them to take action.

    Step 7. Put Together a Compelling “Resource Box”.

    Your “Resource Box” is where you put your copyright info and website contact information.     Blogging is booming. Look who's blogging... and why.

    I feel lucky to be alive and on the cutting edge of what is fast becoming The Age of Blogging... and you should feel the same way.

    And if, by some chance, you don't know what a blog is and how it works for your benefit, you are lucky again; I'm going to reveal the true importance of blogs and some key observations on how to derive maximum benefit from them.

    Why blogging is sweeping the 'net and the globe.

    Consider this.

    The history of machine publishing begins in 1454 with the preparation of what became known as the Gutenberg Bible. It took over a year before finished copies were available. This was thought to be -- and was -- a great advance; hitherto books had to be copied by hand, a process that resulted in many errors, of omission and commission.

    Printing the Gutenburg Bible was a laborious process; as a result today just 21 copies are known.

    Over the centuries publishing developed.

    Books were easier to print... there were many more publishers to print them (thereby increasing the number of opinions and points of view available).... and in due course publishing advanced to where books could be universally distributed and available.

    But all this, important as it was, was as nothing compared to the most signal advance since Gutenburg himself.

    This is the blog.

    A blog is the publishing marvel which enables any person anywhere to post and distribute any message they want any time they want. It expunges the middle man, called the publisher, from the publishing equation and enables the new publishers -- you! -- to set their own agenda and make sure that their message is written just so... and distributed worldwide within minutes.

    The implications of this development are staggering. Until just the other day (in historical terms), to get your message out to the world, you either had to persuade a publisher or his designated representative (an editor) to publish your article... or you had to establish your own publication with all the expense and uncertainty that entailed.

    These days the process is radically different.

    Subscribe to a blogging service. Write your message. Update your message as necessary and desirable, even daily.

    And, always and forever, keep building your subscriber lists so that more and more people see what you have written.

    No longer must writers cringe like Uriah Heap before publishers; you, not they, control your content and can shape and refine it to the satisfaction of a single individual -- you! This has never happened before in the history of mankind and is an event of the highest significance for our species as a whole and the crucial availability and distribution of information.

    So, who's blogging?

    Powerful institutions are not always known for their ability to move quickly, understanding change and working at once to use such change to their advantage. But the advent of the blog has caused many to leap into this brave new world. One of many examples is Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, Massachusetts, a prince of the Church, beloved of the Pontiff.

    O'Malley has become one of his Church's "go to" guys in the pedophile priest scandal and its related sexual issues. Like other Church leaders, I suspect O'Malley has been grievously unhappy about the constant drumbeat of terrible press his beloved church has attracted. You can imagine his eminence's eyes popping as he learned about the blog and grasped its implications. He probably jigged about his office...

    O'Malley no longer needs to submit to the impertinent, probing questions of pesky reporters and their insistent editors. Instead, he can shape and nuance his message just the way he wants it, to the very last comma. This is an unadulterated benefit for O'Malley... though not necessarily for truth since those pesky reporters authority figures do not like... are the means of digging, digging and digging some more; now they would be, to a significant degree, cut out of the process. The O'Malley's of the world can breathe easier.

    Recently (June, 2011), O'Malley used his blog to deal with a nasty issue that had parishioners of every hue very angry indeed. A liberal priest (no, not a tautology) had announced a "liturgy to commemorate Boston Pride 2011," an annual celebration of the city's gay, lesbian, and transgendered community. Conservative Catholics were enraged, many of them blogging their anger.

    This, then, had the result of having the mass "postponed" (church-speak for "it won't happen until hell freezes over, if then"). This, of course, had the predictable result of angering the liberals... and causing their blogs to erupt in a frenzy of vituperation.

    What's a poor prince to do?

    In years past, his eminence would have been forced by the hostilities of his brethren to go before the media and submit to questioning. That is not a thing princes like to do; in fact they abhor this profoundly irritating and degrading event of lese majeste'.

    Now they blog... now no one ever sees them sweat... because they no longer sweat at all!

    O'Malley, thanks to his growing proficiency as a frequent blogger, dealt with this more than tempest-in-a-tea-cup when HE wanted, how HE wanted... his blog carefully nuanced to his liking. In due course, working behind the scenes, with the message completely his without having to bother with reporters, the matter was solved.... at least this time.

    Not as smart: the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.

    Whereas Cardinal O'Mallley got the point about blogs and their utility, the Archbishop of Canterbury, senior cleric in the Church of England, did not. In the most recent (June, 2011) issue of the "New Statesman" magazine, his grace lashes out at the Conservative - Liberal Democrat coalition, which came to power 13 months ago. Williams was appointed in 2002 by Labor Prime Minister Tony Blair.

    Willams, way behind the technology curve, missed a grand opportunity not merely to get his message out to a worldwide audience far larger than the readership of a single magazine, but to grow his list (something no serious blogger can overlook).

    He opted for the traditional paper method... and that instantly limited the effectiveness of what he had to say. Had he, instead, set up a blog and posted his message there... his readership would have exploded and he would have added a host of new readers to his blog... where he could have worked early and late to convert them to his often irritating point of view.

    His grace will learn, however; he really has no choice. No "leader" of any kind does. For all, for each, it's "blog or atrophy and die." The same applies to you... which is why you must blog today, tomorrow, forever, or create your own irrelevance and obsolescence, a state of affairs you would really not relish.
