Okay, you've decided you want an Internet home business to earn some extra cash. You've Googled the Web and signed up for a couple of freebies to try. Suddenly, you're bombarded with all kinds of offers in your mailbox. What you thought would be a couple of free trials has turned into a never-ending stream of emails in your box. You see, when you asked for information by filling out that little form with your name and email address, you actually gave more than one entity permission to send you a newsletter, an e-book or emails with information and links to join their programs, become an affiliate or buy a product, etc.

Once you opt-in, which is the term for "giving permission" to receive information online, you start receiving more than you bargained for, because the main information source has affiliates associated with it. Then confusion sets in as well as information overload. The brain tends to lock! You feel as one can only imagine a hamster would going around and around on a wheel and not knowing how to get out of the situation.

Well, you see I've done just that. But the one thing that kept me going was my passion, persistence and determination. I was so tired of doing the 9 to 5 and expending all my energy for others with little gain for myself, and I was so determined to work on my own, that I didn't give up. When my email box filled, and I didn't have time to read them, I simply stopped. I didn't go on a deleting frenzy. I just left the emails until I could get to them, because I certainly did not want to start that trip over again. I realized that if I did, there would simply be a gazillion more emails. And I also thought that there could be something worthwhile in some of those emails. Hope springs eternal with me.

I had emails dating back as far as five or six months. I know that sounds ridiculous, but in my heart of hearts I felt that there was probably something worth checking out in some of them. And there was. When I finally got to a point that I had some time, I started reading the emails. Of course, some were time sensitive and so I just deleted them. That got rid of quite a few. With others I opted in for freebies.

At first, when I received personalized responses, I thought people were actually emailing me. Then it occurred to me that was impossible. It would be a daunting task even for a "hired hand." You see, I knew nothing about auto responders and broadcasts and the like. I was a newbie. If you are a newbie to the Internet, you could very well become discouraged and totally disenchanted with your initial idea of a home-based Internet business. But if you're serious about a home based business, the Internet is probably the way to go. Now is the future we used to talk about, and Web business is not going away.

Many years ago I saw the trend and was unable to or not determined enough to take advantage of it. There are only so many hours in a day. If you have a family and work 40 hours a week away from home, it's tough. As we know, everything takes time and effort and focus.

Don’t sign up for anything that requires money that your budget does not allow. Check out the freebies. Allow yourself a few months to see what’s out there and whose names crop up again and again in the Internet business world. You’ll soon see a pattern emerge, and you can begin checking those sources and narrowing your search. Don’t fall for every free thing out there. You don’t want to become overwhelmed or end up with information overload. And never make fear-based decisions. That’s why it’s important to take your time. Be persistent but patient and focused on your passion or goal.
